Comments should work again

I disabled the WP-captcha-free plug-in. It’s supposed to use some fancy AJAX/javascript to stop spam instead of requiring captcha. It definitely does that, but it also disables ALL comments. I disabled the plug-in, so comments should be working again.

New Server is Moving to Atlanta!

Virtual private servers are cool. At the flip of a switch (and a little bit of a wait), the 15GB image of the server that phragmunkee.com now resides on will be moved from Fremont, CA to Atlanta, GA. About 60ms closer as the packet flies to Chattanooga. I’ll start the move tonight around 8:00 or so and it should hopefully be done in an hour or two. During that time, everything will be down again until I update the IP addresses in Apache. I’ll post an update when it’s all done.

Moving to new server

I’m tired of playing server admin when it comes to hardware. It’s just a pain in the butt. So, I bought a virtual private server package over the weekend and have been migrating everything over. It’s just like having my own full server but without the headache of having to care for hardware and worry about having to come into work to reboot or console it etc etc. It’s only $31 a month for everything I (we) will need.

Expect some downtime and maybe a slight performance hit from here on out as I’m moving things from Chattanooga to the west coast.

They do have a data center in Atlanta, but apparently have been having some issues the past month or two. Once those get cleared up, I may request a data center move to be a little closer to home with an extra 30-40 ms shaved off the delay.

Gallery Gone (Sorta)

I’ve installed FAlbum to link to my Flickr account and have removed the links to the old gallery. It’s still there. I’m going to wait it out and see how well I like FAlbum first before doing anything too drastic.

I decided to go ahead and roll up MunkeeSoft.com into PhragMunkee.com. MunkeeSoft was my development blog that had a whopping total of 5 posts in the past 2 years or so.

Updated Wordpress to 2.3.2

It’s updated! And it was relatively painless. I felt so inspired by this upgrade, that I went on to do a lot of web site and database maintenance on a bunch of other sites as well. Whee!

Upgrading Wordpress to 2.3.2

I guess it’s about time to upgrade Wordpress for this site. It’s currently running 2.0.3 and the newest version is 2.3.2. That may not seem like a big jump, but apparently it is. 2.0.3 was released on June 1, 2006 and, for some reason, isn’t included in the download archive (typically not a good sign). So, I’ve made my backups and hopefully things will flow smoothly. Expect brokenness for an indeterminate amount of time.

New Site This Week

I’ll be rolling out the latest version of PhragMunkee.com sometime this week. It will be powered by WordPress and using a pre-built theme. The gallery will also be new code from a WP plug-in. The only things I have left to do are create a new banner, fix up the Gallery Update page on the new site (to show pictures), and write up a script to convert the old gallery to something a bit friendlier for the new gallery code (and will also make uploading new pictures much faster).

I will also be able to roll out different themes and my own plug-ins MUCH faster with the new WordPress code, so I may be inclined to make more updates and add new stuff.

Now for your moment of zen:
